Recipe recommendation: Soft and Fluffy Milk Bread by Cook Kafemaru

Used this recipe for my mini polar bear buns and they were so good and really easy to make too! The dough for this one is slightly sticky but the outcome makes everything worth it.

To convert these buns to mini polar bears,

1. Set aside some dough for the ears (about 6x 1/2cm diameter balls to make three polar bears) and rolled the rest into nine balls. Each ball should weigh about 50g. If you want to ensure that they are perfectly even, pinch out the dough for the ears first, then weigh the dough before dividing into nine. You might need to lightly dusted some flour on the surface before rolling to get a smoother surface.

2. Stick on the polar bear's ears, pressing it down a bit so that it sticks. Or you can also use some water to act as 'glue'.

3. After the buns have proofed, lightly dust the buns with a layer of flour (I used all purpose flour for this). The flour will keep the surface of the bread a really pale colour to match the shade of a polar bear. If you'd rather have brown bears, you can skip this step.

4. Prepare a mixture of cocoa powder and hot water. Dissolve about 1/4 tsp of cocoa powder in a few drops of hot water until you no longer see lumps and adjust the amount of cocoa powder and hot water accordingly to end up with a smooth chocolate paste that is not too thin, but also not too thick.

5. Pick up some of the chocolate paste using the blunt end of a tooth pick and draw on the polar bear's eyes and nose. You might need to use your toothpick to slightly rub off flour from the spot of application before the chocolate will stick on.

6. Once that is done, send your buns off to the oven and bake at low temperature about 150 to 160 degrees for 17 minutes until fully cooked.

Happy baking!
